La Gomera
“La Gomera: raw nature meets authentic charm, a remote paradise that reconnects your soul to the wild.”
Our 6-Week Journey: Why We Love to Visit La Gomera
From November 21, 2020, to January 4, 2021, we stayed on La Gomera, the second smallest of the Canary Islands. During this time, we thoroughly explored every corner of this beautiful island. After a brief acclimatization on Tenerife, we arrived by boat in San Sebastian and rented a car for our six-week adventure. La Gomera’s quiet charm and rugged landscapes made it the perfect retreat during the first period of our world travels. In fact, it was an ideal environment for reflection, yoga, and hiking.
Finding Serenity in Tazo
Our stay in Tazo, a secluded village, was a definite highlight. Although the drive there was an adventure in itself, the tranquility and stunning surroundings made every mile worthwhile. From this peaceful base, we explored the island’s incredible nature and unique volcanic terrain. Tazo was the perfect base from which we spent most of our time on the island’s world-class hiking trails.
Escaping to a Natural Paradise
Key hikes included Playa Iguala, Alto de Garajonay, and the misty forests of El Cedro. Furthermore, beaches like Valle Gran Rey and Playa de la Caleta offered perfect moments of relaxation. La Gomera’s slow pace and authentic villages offered exactly what we needed at that time. Remember, this was in the middle of the first Covid-winter. Therefore, La Gomera turned out to be a true paradise for us as nature lovers, perfect for escaping the world and reconnecting with ourselves.

Discover the Island: What to Expect When You Visit La Gomera
La Gomera is one of those hidden gems among the Canary Islands; a destination that whispers rather than shouts. Known for its unspoiled landscapes and serene atmosphere, it feels like it belongs to a simpler, more soulful era. Whether you are seeking adventure or a peaceful retreat, La Gomera offers a warm embrace to travelers who take the time to discover its beauty.
Small in Size, Grand in Diversity
Although small in size, being one of the smallest Canary Islands, it offers a richness that rivals any grander destination. From dramatic volcanic cliffs to lush green barrancos (ravines), La Gomera is a paradise for those who love nature and tranquility. In addition, it offers a Mediterranean way of life with a unique Atlantic twist.
Slow Living and Authentic Charm
For first-time visitors, we recommend at least a week to truly soak in the island’s magic. Unlike its more bustling neighbors, La Gomera invites you to slow down. For instance, you can wander through its quaint villages or simply sip a coffee in a sun-dappled plaza. As a result, you will find that time slips by unnoticed as you embrace the local rhythm.
Unmissable Highlights and Adventure
Highlights of the island include the ancient forests of Garajonay National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Furthermore, don’t miss the Mirador de Abrante for sweeping views that stretch across the sea to Tenerife. If you are craving adventure, you can lace up your boots for hikes through deep ravines. Alternatively, for a more laid-back experience, you can sample fresh local produce and volcanic wines in a small village where life moves at the pace of the waves.
La Gomera is refreshingly simple to navigate. Although the roads are winding, every drive feels like an adventure. Ready to visit La Gomera? Explore our blogs for insider tips and hiking routes to make the most of your island escape. And please reach out if you have any questions!
