Malaysia
“From modern Kuala Lumpur to misty tea hills and jungle-covered islands, Malaysia is a journey of vibrant contrasts.”
Malaysia
During our Asia Tour at the end of 2022, we spent almost a full month exploring the western part of Malaysia, the region located between Thailand and Singapore. The eastern part of Malaysia, on the island of Borneo, is still waiting for another adventure.
A month proved to be the perfect amount of time to discover Malaysia at a relaxed pace. We started by flying from Thailand to the island of Penang, where we based ourselves for several days in Georgetown. This colorful, lively city was the ideal starting point for exploring both heritage and modern street life.
From Penang, we took a short flight to Kuala Lumpur. Like so many cities in Asia, Kuala Lumpur is a fascinating blend of authentic Eastern traditions and cutting-edge Western influences. A city full of contrasts, and full of life.
After an amazing housesit in Singapore, we returned northward by bus, making a stop in the charming coastal town of Melaka. With its rich history, riverside cafés, and colorful streets, Melaka felt both relaxed and vibrant, and even a bit Dutch. Our journey continued as we returned to Kuala Lumpur to pick up a rental car. From there, we embarked on a road trip through the northern part of West Malaysia. We passed through Ipoh, a city famous for its heritage architecture and food, and explored the cooler highlands of Cameron Highlands, known for its tea plantations and lush greenery.
Finally, we ended our Malaysian adventure on the island of Langkawi, with its beautiful beaches and laid-back island atmosphere, a perfect place to reflect on everything we had experienced. Malaysia is extremely easy to travel, and we used a variety of transport options to move around comfortably. Everywhere we went, we met incredibly friendly and welcoming people. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment spent in this beautiful part of the world.

Discover Malaysia, where colonial charm, futuristic skylines, tropical islands, and cool mountain escapes come together in one unforgettable journey. West Malaysia is an absolute must for any Southeast Asia tour. While two weeks will give you a good impression, more time will let you experience the full richness of this fascinating country.
Start your exploration in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s vibrant capital. Between the soaring Petronas Twin Towers and the traditional neighbourhood of Kampung Baru, the city weaves old and new into a living tapestry. Stroll through the buzzing streets of Bukit Bintang, visit the iconic Sultan Abdul Samad Building, and feel the multicultural energy that defines Kuala Lumpur.
Head south to the coastal city of Melaka, where history whispers from every building. Explore the colourful Dutch Square, climb up to St. Paul’s Hill for sweeping views, and wander through bustling Jonker Street Night Market. Melaka feels nostalgic and lively, a perfect reflection of Malaysia’s colonial past and modern spirit.
Escape the heat and rise into the Cameron Highlands, a lush green world of tea plantations and mossy forests. Walk the misty trails of the Mossy Forest, sip tea overlooking endless rolling hills, and enjoy the cooler air that makes this region feel like another world entirely.
Continue your journey to Ipoh, one of Malaysia’s best-kept secrets. Admire the street art trails that bring life to historic laneways, and visit the serene Kek Lok Tong Cave Temple, hidden within limestone hills. Ipoh surprises with its quiet charm and vibrant food scene.
No trip would be complete without a visit to Penang. In George Town, street art and heritage houses sit side by side, telling stories of migration, trade, and cultural fusion. Visit the vibrant Kek Lok Si Temple, one of the largest Buddhist temples in Southeast Asia, and savour local specialities at the famous Gurney Hawker Centre.
Finally, relax on the tropical island of Langkawi. Ride the SkyCab for breathtaking views over jungle and sea, cross the dizzying Sky Bridge, and unwind on beaches where turquoise waters meet white sands. Langkawi is a perfect place to slow down, reflect, and enjoy Malaysia’s softer, natural side.
Everywhere in Malaysia, you will find warmth, diversity, and a beautiful balance of contrasts. Discover Malaysia, and you will discover why it stays with you long after your journey ends.
