Nepal
“Where every trail leads to the Himalayas, and every step is a journey to the sky.”
Nepal
It was the spring of 2024. After a year and a half of travelling through Australia and New Zealand, it was time to set foot on European soil again and reconnect with “home.” But not before Geert made a stopover to discover Nepal, and what a stopover it was. While Ella headed back to the Netherlands, Geert embarked on a 16-day trek through the Himalayas.
A trek like this is not something you decide on lightly. It begins with a moment, and for Geert, that moment came in June 2023 when the opportunity presented itself. The decision was made instantly, this adventure had to happen. From that point forward, it was all about preparation, physically and mentally. How do you train for weeks of hiking at high altitudes? How do you choose the right gear? And how do you prepare for the unexpected, where every day brings a new landscape and challenge?
Before the trek began, Geert spent a few days in Kathmandu to acclimatise and soak up the atmosphere of this vibrant, spiritual city. After the trek, he returned to rest, reflect, and process everything he had experienced.
On this page, we take you through the journey of discovering Nepal. Most of all, it is about a spectacular trek through the Himalayas, past Everest Base Camp, across the mighty Cho-La Pass, and through some of the most breathtaking mountain scenery in the world.

Discover Nepal: The Land of Mountains, Mysticism, and Adventure
Nepal is a country that touches your soul, a place where the world’s highest mountains rise, where ancient temples whisper of a deeply rooted spirituality, and where every trek, every stupa, and every cup of tea with a local tells you a new story. From the chaos of Kathmandu to the serene heights of the Himalayas, Nepal is a land of extremes. A place where you lose track of time and rediscover yourself, high above the clouds.
Kathmandu – The Vibrant Heart of Nepal
Kathmandu is a city like no other. Chaotic, colorful, and magical all at once. Here, you race through the narrow streets of Thamel on a rattling rickshaw, where temple bells ring, the scent of incense and street food fills the air, and trekkers prepare for their journey into the mountains.
Visit the Monkey Temple, where prayer flags flutter in the wind and monkeys roam between the ancient stupas. Wander through the historic streets of Bhaktapur, a city where time seems to stand still. Sip a cup of masala chai on a rooftop terrace overlooking Durbar Square and let yourself be carried away by this spiritual city.
But Kathmandu is just the beginning. The Himalayas are calling.
The Ultimate Himalaya Adventure – A Journey to the Roof of the World
From Kathmandu, you travel by van to Ramechap for the flight to Lukla. And this is not just any flight, it is an adrenaline rush, a short, steep landing on one of the world’s most thrilling airstrips.
From here, the adventure truly begins: a trek that challenges you both physically and mentally, taking you through:
Namche Bazaar, the bustling capital of the Sherpas, where trekkers acclimatize and catch their first glimpse of Everest.
Everest View Hotel, the perfect place to sip tea while gazing at the roof of the world.
Dingboche and Chukhung, where the air grows thinner and the snow-capped peaks feel closer than ever.
Gorakshep and Everest Base Camp, the ultimate goal for many, where climbers prepare for their expeditions and you stand face to face with the legendary mountain. Every day is a battle against the altitude, but the reward is breathtaking views you will not find anywhere else on Earth.
Gokyo and the Cho-La Pass – One Step Further
For those who want more than just Everest Base Camp, the Cho-La Pass awaits, a rugged crossing at nearly 5,500 meters. After the pass, a new world begins, where the glacial lakes of Gokyo shine like sapphires between the towering snow giants. Climb to Gokyo Ri for a panorama you will never forget: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu all in a single breathtaking view. The descent takes you through Portse and Monjo, back to the warmer valleys, where oxygen-rich air and cozy teahouses welcome you home.
Kathmandu – Back to the Enchantment of the City
After days in the thin mountain air, Kathmandu feels like a different world. The temples, the chaos, the scents, everything is more intense. It is time to settle into a café, enjoy another steaming plate of dal bhat, and reflect on an adventure that will stay with you forever.
