“Where rugged fjords meet endless adventure, nature’s masterpiece waiting to be explored!”

Norway

In the summer of 2022, we took our camper on an unforgettable journey to discover Norway. A trip of nearly a month filled with adventure and breathtaking landscapes. The original plan? A longer expedition, venturing even further north. But due to personal circumstances, we had to cut our trip short. One thing, however, became immediately clear: Norway had captured us.

Our road trip started in the Netherlands, with a two-day drive to Hirtshals, in northern Denmark. From there, we took the ferry to Kristiansand, the perfect starting point for a journey along Norway’s southern and western coasts and to discover Norway. But, of course, we did not stop there, we also headed inland. A journey towards the mighty cliffs of Preikestolen, the iconic Trolltunga, and the stunning fjords of Eidfjord.

By the time we reached Bergen and were ready to continue further north, we received a message from the Netherlands that forced us to return home. An early end to our adventure, but the seed had been planted: we will be back. Next time, we will go even further north, towards the Lofoten Islands and maybe beyond.

Ready to discover Norway? It is a country that commands awe and admiration. A land where towering fjords meet rugged coastlines, and endless wilderness stretches as far as the eye can see. It is a destination that captures your soul with its dramatic landscapes, charming towns, and an overwhelming sense of freedom. Whether you are on a road trip, chasing the northern lights, or hiking to breathtaking viewpoints, Norway offers an experience that stays with you forever.

For first-time visitors, we recommend at least three weeks to truly embrace what Norway has to offer. If you have more time, even better! The country’s size and geography mean that a relaxed pace is key to soaking in its beauty. From the charming coastal city of Kristiansand to the wild landscapes of the Lofoten Islands, and from the vibrant culture of Bergen to the iconic hikes of Preikestolen and Trolltunga, every region has its own magic waiting to be discovered.

One of the best ways to experience Norway is by road. We started our adventure in Kristiansand, a lively southern city known for its beautiful coastline and relaxed atmosphere. From there, we made our way west, passing through the picturesque towns of Lindesnes, Lyngdal, and Flekkefjord, each offering a taste of Norway’s rich maritime history and stunning coastal scenery.

Further along the route, Stavanger welcomed us with its vibrant harbor, charming old town, and easy access to one of Norway’s most famous hikes, Preikestolen. This epic cliff rises 604 meters above the Lysefjord, offering one of the most breathtaking views in the country. Continuing north via Haugesund, we reached Odda, the gateway to Trolltunga, another legendary hike that rewards adventurers with one of the most dramatic and photogenic views in Norway. The climb is demanding, but standing on the edge of the Troll’s Tongue is a moment you will not forget.

Not far from Odda lies Eidfjord, where Norway’s raw beauty reaches new heights. Here, the Vøringfossen waterfall thunders down 182 meters, creating a mesmerizing natural spectacle. Driving through this fjord region, you will find yourself stopping every few minutes just to take in the stunning surroundings.

Our road trip ended in Bergen, the cultural heart of western Norway, where colorful wooden houses line the historic Bryggen wharf. And the smell of fresh seafood drifts through the harbor. With its vibrant city life, surrounding mountains, and easy access to the fjords, Bergen is the perfect place to soak in Norway’s urban-meets-nature vibe before heading further north.

Despite its vastness, it is easy to travel and discover Norway, as long as you are prepared for winding roads, frequent weather changes, and breathtaking views around every corner.
