We started with Nanjing Road, one of the most famous shopping streets in the world. It is busy, bright, and buzzing from morning until night. A walk here gives you a glimpse of the city’s fast pace, and how locals mix shopping, business, and leisure into one flow.

From there, we made our way to The Bund, both enjoyed in the daytime and at night when the skyline across the river shines through the haze and is lit up at night. We took the ferry across the Huangpu River, a simple but surprisingly beautiful way to see the skyline unfold. It may only take minutes, but it is a moment you will remember.

On the other side: Lujiazui, home to the Shanghai Tower, Jin Mao Tower, and Shanghai World Financial Center. Visit Shanghai Tower at sunset and stay through the evening. The view transforms from golden to neon, and you feel like you are watching the future happen in real time.

But Shanghai is not just steel and glass. We wandered through the French Concession, where tree-lined streets and art deco buildings tell a quieter story of the city. In the Old City, we found temples, markets, and the kind of layered history that defines old China.

And some of the best moments? Simply getting lost. Walking without a plan, stepping into side streets, stopping for noodles, and watching daily life unfold. Shanghai is a city best discovered by doing exactly that.
